Public meeting on school security to be held next week

Parents and Grady County citizens are invited to participate in an upcoming community meeting being hosted by the Grady County School System.
School Superintendent Dr. Tommy Pharis announced this week that the system is holding a community information gathering session on Thursday evening, Jan. 17, at the Cairo High School cafeteria.
“The purpose of this meeting is to solicit and receive input from schools and members of the community on school safety,” Dr. Pharis said.
The meeting is part of a review of the school system’s Strategic Plan.
“We believe a safe and disruption free school environment is a basic right of all students and staff. We also believe high expectations for appropriate behavior and clear, consistent age appropriate discipline procedures positively impact the learning process,” Dr. Pharis said.
School officials want to hear from the citizenry how the school system can best ensure and maintain a safe, orderly and effective school environment.
The meeting is open to the public and citizens are encouraged to attend and participate. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. next Thursday night.
