Bulk of ad valorem taxes have been paid
Grady County Tax Commissioner Phyllis Gainous has collected the bulk of the 2012 tax digest on time.
According to Mrs. Gainous, right at 80 percent of the taxes due was paid by the Dec. 20 due date.
As of Dec. 21, her office had collected $10,400,637.87. Of that total $5,009,401.58 was due the Grady County Board of Education; $4,248,764.11 to the Grady County Board of Commissioners; $1,049,189.84 to the city of Cairo; $64,164.77 to the state of Georgia; and $29,117.57 to the city of Whigham.
“I am very pleased with our collections and anticipate the remainder due being paid up very shortly,” Mrs. Gainous said.
