Taxes continue to roll in as deadline looms

Taxes come due next Thursday, Dec. 20, and approximately half have already been paid.
Grady County Tax Commissioner Phyllis Gainous reported Tuesday that $6,012,266.52 of the $12,856,012 billed has been collected.
Of the total collected, $2,884,663.02 is to be disbursed to the Grady County Board of Education; $2,452,359.70 to the Grady County Commission; $622,278.92 to the city of Cairo; $37,228.88 to the state of Georgia; and $15,736 to the city of Whigham.
According to Mrs. Gainous, mortgage companies traditionally pay on or near the due date, so she is anticipating a busy week of collections next week.
