Cairo man confesses to March burglaries

A 17-year-old Cairo man was charged Monday with breaking into two Cairo businesses back in the early spring.
Breon Patrick Gilbert is charged with the March 24 burglaries at Finishing Touch located on MLK Boulevard, and the office of accountant Terry Prince on Fourth Avenue S.W. Gilbert allegedly stole merchandise from Finishing Touch, and petty cash and postage stamps from the accountant’s office.
Officers arrested Gilbert Friday night during a traffic stop when he was charged with marijuana and traffic charges. A weapon found inside the vehicle prompted Cairo Police Investigator Johnny Myers to question Gilbert, who then allegedly confessed to both burglaries.
Gilbert was being held in the Grady Detention Center.
