City council approves zoning change for new sports bar
Local residents could soon have a new place to enjoy a libation and talk sports.
The Cairo City Council voted unanimously Monday night to approve a conditional use request for a sports bar to be located at 201-B Fourth Street N.W.
Adriano Tyree Gonzalez, a student at Bainbridge College studying business, applied for the zoning change in order to operate a sports bar that will be open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
“I am studying business and I want to own my own business,” Gonzalez told city councilmen this week.
City Attorney Thomas L. Lehman noted that the city ordinance stipulates hours of operation for lounges and hours when bars can serve and be open to the public. He suggested Gonzalez obtain a copy of the ordinance from the city clerk before establishing his operating hours.
“If it gets too noisy, you might have some push back from the neighbors. You shouldn’t have a problem if it’s not too noisy,” Lehman said.
