Allen Jenkins is appointed the new District 3 school board member
After a brief closed door session Tuesday night the Grady County Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Allen Jenkins to fill the unexpired term of Dist. 3 Grady County Board of Education member Byron Puckett, who resigned last month.
Jenkins is the owner and operator of Allen’s Barber Shop at 80 First Ave. N.E. in Cairo.
He was one of five candidates who submitted letters of interest to serve for the remainder of Puckett’s term, which expires Dec. 31, 2012.
According to Grady County Board of Education Chairman Teresa Gee Harris, a sixth candidate submitted a letter of interest, but it was submitted after Monday’s deadline and was not considered by the board.
Jenkins will be sworn in as soon as possible and will immediately take office.
“We believed that Mr. Jenkins was the best candidate to fill the position for the remainder of the unexpired term. I look forward to working with him,” Chairman Gee Harris said Tuesday night.
