Property taxes are due next Tuesday

Lots of folks are counting down the days to Christmas, but before the 25th rolls around another big day comes about—tax day.
Grady County Tax Commissioner Phyllis Gainous reminds all local taxpayers that taxes are due and payable by next Tuesday, Dec. 20.
Payments made after the 20th are subject to penalties and interest.
Tax collections to date have remained well below half, but in the coming days Gainous says taxpayers and mortgage companies will remit payments.
Mrs. Gainous has billed out $13,095,542.09 in county, school, city of Cairo and state taxes to Grady County property owners.
The tax commissioner also is offering a contract with taxpayers who are not financially able to pay their entire tax bill, but she encourages taxpayers to contact her office prior to next Tuesday to make arrangements for partial payments.
