Bands to perform together
Fans attending Friday night’s game between the Cairo High School Syrupmakers and the St. Pius X Catholic High School Golden Lions are in for a special treat, according to CHS Director of Bands Johnny Folsom.
The CHS band leader reported Monday that the Marching Syrupmaker Band will join the Marching Golden Lion Band in performing “The Star Spangled Banner” at the opening of Friday night’s contest.
Golden Lions Director Chad Paetznick contacted Folsom Monday and discussed a joint performance since many of the Golden Lions band members will be absent due to the holiday.
In addition to performing the national anthem together, the two bands may also perform “A Land of a Thousand Dancers.”
“We added “A Land of a Thousand Dancers” as part of our halftime show several weeks ago, and I couldn’t believe when their director suggested we join together to play at halftime,” Director Folsom said.
Folsom also announced the band’s travel plans for Friday.
The loading crew is to report at 10:30 Friday morning and all other members at 11 a.m. dressed in traditional travel uniforms, which is a black band shirt and band shorts. Folsom suggests layering clothing to adjust for weather, but using school colors.
A pizza lunch will be served at departure to eat on the bus. The band will stop over at Southlake Mall in Morrow from approximately 3:30 until 5 p.m. and students should bring money to buy supper at the mall’s food court. Folsom says the band should be back in Cairo Saturday morning between 3 and 3:30 a.m.
