Downtown Cairo is the place to be this Christmas

This year’s annual Christmas parade is just the beginning of a weekend full of planned holiday activities in Cairo.
Following the popular community kickoff of the Yule season that takes place in just two weeks on Thursday, Dec. 1, are special performances by the Syrup City Players and the Cairo High School Bands plus a special shopping day downtown.
The Syrup City Players are staging “Cairo’s Christmas Follies” at the Zebulon Theater on the evenings of Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3, both at 7:30 p.m. A special matinee for children is set for that Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
The Follies will include holiday music, dance, comedy and more as performed by the local acting troupe as well as other performers.
Tickets are on sale at the Zebulon box office, Center Drugs and Miss Myrts. Ticket prices for the evening shows are $10 for adults, and $6 for students and seniors. Matinee prices are $6 for adults and $4 for students and seniors.
Hoping to lure shoppers to their hometown stores, downtown merchants are planning to offer special values on Saturday, Dec. 3. Merchants interested in participating should contact Mrs. Debbi Miller at Miss Myrts, (229)377-4278.
The Cairo High School bands will put the final touch on the local holiday weekend with their annual Christmas concert, scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 4 at 2:30 p.m. at the high school auditorium.
Volunteers coordinating the weekend, say they hope to make this an annual kickoff to Christmas in Cairo.
