Merchants welcome ghouls & goblins Monday

Young princesses, football players, monsters and fairy tale characters will skip along Broad Street Monday in search of candy during the annual Downtown Cairo Merchant’s Trick or Treat event.
Many of Cairo’s government offices and downtown businesses will give out candy to costumed youngsters between 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., Oct. 31.
Parents must park and walk with their children to receive candy. No candy will be distributed to people in automobiles due to safety concerns. Motorists are encouraged to drive cautiously through the area, which is expected to be bustling with young children and parents.
Trick or treating will take place between MLK Ave. S.W. and the Grady County Courthouse.
Costumes are encouraged for participants to show their appreciation of the merchants and civil employees who distribute candy.
Although Broad Street, a state thoroughfare, will remain open during the annual holiday event, Cairo Police officers will be posted at cross walks to help ensure safety.
