Duo charged in shooting of Cairo man remain behind bars

A pair of Thomasville men charged in the shooting death of Cairo’s Jerry Bodiford may go before a Superior Court judge this week to find out if they will be granted bond.
Shadrick Ron Killens and Frank Rashard Williams Jr., both 20 years old, are being held in the Grady County Detention Center on charges of felony murder and aggravated assault connected to Bodiford’s death on the night of Wednesday, July 27.
It appears Bodiford was just an innocent victim in the drive-by shooting, which was sparked by a disagreement over a girl, says Chief Keith Sandefur of the Cairo Police Department. “We believe the individuals were targeting someone else.”
Bodiford and several other men were standing at the corner of 11th Street and Washington Homes Drive Southwest when a vehicle occupied by two black males drove by and fired several shots into the crowd about 11 p.m., the chief says. Bodiford was struck in the side.
Hours later, Williams came to the Cairo Police Department accompanied by family members, and Killens turned himself in at the Justice Center in Thomasville. Soon after, Cairo Police picked up Killens and transported him to the Grady County Detention Center.
Police are awaiting results of an autopsy on Bodiford’s body before they can speculate on the type of gun used in the shooting. They did search the homes of both suspects on Thursday, but the murder weapon was not  located.
