Students and teachers to knock off early on last day of school, May 20

Grady County School Superintendent Dr. Tommy Pharis reminds parents and guardians of public school students that Friday, May 20, the last day of school, will be a half day only.
“Instructional time on the afternoon of the last day of school is not an issue. We did the same thing last year, and it was well received by the community,” Dr. Pharis said.
According to the superintendent, each school will announce specific dismissal and bus pick up times.
“We have cut teacher workdays and salaries by five to seven days, plus loss of local supplement for the past two years. The time teachers need to prepare, however, is not reduced,” he said.
“Teachers continue to work many more hours than they are paid. This half day also is “thanks” to them from our school board,” Dr. Pharis said.
School officials say that a large number of students check out of school around lunch or shortly after on the last day of school anyway.
