Christmas Parade is next Thursday

The annual Cairo Christmas Parade is next Thursday night, Dec. 2, 2010, and officials encourage you to take advantage of the additional trash receptacles being put throughout the downtown by the city, rather than trashing the downtown business district.
“We can put out extra trash cans, but we can’t make folks use them,” said Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice President Jennifer Majors.
This year’s parade will feature 85 units, including five bands. The featured bands with be the Cairo Syrupmaker Marching Band, the Washington Middle School Band, the Shiver School Band and the Whigham School Band, in addition to the Pelham High School Band.
The theme this year is “Season GREENings” and the unit that best expresses the theme will be awarded the Christmas Spirit Award and walk away with a $300 cash prize.
Mrs. Majors also reminds citizens that parking on Broad Street will be prohibited once again.
City crews will put out signs early next week reminding motorists that parking on Broad Street will not be permitted after 5 p.m. next Thursday.
“The Christmas Parade is a wonderful community event and a great way to kick off the holiday season. We encourage everyone to come out and enjoy,” Mrs. Majors said.
The parade will step off at 7 p.m.
