Marine Corps Logistics Base officer is Veterans Day keynote speaker
Local veterans organizations are making plans for the annual observance of Veterans Day at the Grady County Courthouse beginning at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11.
Keynote speaker for the observance will be Second Lieutenant Kyle Thomas, who heads the Public Affairs Office of the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany.
“Being that the base is the largest civilian employer in the region, it is important for the community to realize they have been crucial to the success of the Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany since 1952,” Lt. Thomas said.
Thomas enlisted in the Marine Corps on July 6, 2001, shortly after graduating from Haughton High School, Haughton, La.
During his military career he has served in “fence line” operations at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and in infantry operations in Al Ramadi, Fallujah and Hit while deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom II.
Upon returning home, he attended Louisiana State University, Shreveport, and earned his bachelor’s degree in history in 2008.
“We are very pleased to have Second Lieutenant Thomas join us for our Veterans Day observance,” said VFW Post 8433 Commander Doug Taylor, who, along with Family Worship Center Pastor Johnny Moore, has planned the Veterans Day program.
Taylor encourages the local community to attend and show their support for those who have served in the nation’s armed forces.
