County seeks new recreation director

There will not be a YMCA managed and operated recreation program in Grady County in the immediate future.
That is what county commissioners were told Tuesday by Grady County Administrator Rusty Moye, who reported on his talks with Wylie Grady, Thomasville YMCA director.
According to Moye, Grady is not able to take on the management and operation of the county’s recreation program at this time, based on his own staffing and budget requirements.
“What I am hearing on this is that the YMCA is not available at this time to take it over, so we need to proceed with hiring a new recreation director,” Chairman Al Ball said.
Moye told commissioners that he had also had conversations with Ken Bailey of the Decatur County YMCA and both YMCA directors offered assistance in making recommendations and answering questions regarding recreational offerings, but he, too, was not in a position to operate the program.
The board voted unanimously to begin advertising for the position, which is currently vacant after the board voted to terminate Phil Gregory Oct. 5.
