The Grady County Board of Education now has a new member.
Scott Higginbotham was unanimously appointed by the school board to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of District 5 board member Joe Porter.
Porter submitted his resignation to Governor Sonny Perdue effective June 28th because he and his family moved to a new home out of District 5.
Higginbotham, who qualified as a Republican for the District 5 post, is unopposed and board members, following a brief closed door session, voted to appoint him to fill the vacancy until his full term begins on January 1, 2011.
“I appreciate it and am looking forward to it,” Higginbotham told his fellow board members Tuesday night.
Porter attended the first portion of the meeting when his resignation was announced.
Superintendent Dr. Tommy Pharis said the board would recognize Porter for his service at a future meeting.
