Early voting continues

Early voting kicked off Monday, June 7, but the voter turnout has been poor thus far, election officials report.
“It’s been steady, but slow,” Chief Registrar Lizzie Garrette said Tuesday.
As of Tuesday, only 205 voters had cast ballots. Of those, 73 Democratic ballots had been cast and 132 were Republican ballots.
There are no contested primary races for local offices, but there are many state offices being sought by a number of both Democratic and Republican candidates.
In fact, there are 14 candidates who want to be the next governor of Georgia. Seven Democrats and seven Republicans are on the ballot for governor.
Primary election day is July 20 and the early voting will run through July 16.
The advanced and early voting is taking place at the courthouse this year. For more information about voting, contact Ms. Garrette at 229-377-1897.
