Work underway on Lower Cairo Road

STANLEY ELKINS, a heavy equipment operator with the Grady County Road Department, inspects work done Tuesday in preparation for the installation of a pre-fabricated concrete bridge on Lower Cairo Road.

Grady County Road Department crews moved in Monday and began work to remove rusted out metal pipes that were installed in 1982 to replace a wooden bridge and make preparations for the installation of a pre-fabricated concrete bridge on Lower Cairo Road.
The county is also going to raise the elevation of the road once the bridge is installed. Road Superintendent Yancey Maxwell said that Southern Concrete Construction will begin driving pylons today (Wednesday). The road should be reopened to thru traffic in four to five weeks.
