Countywide parent meeting is Thursday

Grady County School Superintendent Dr. Tommy Pharis has launched an initiative focusing on increased parental involvement in local schools.
A meeting of the newly formed Parent Engagement Committee is scheduled for tomorrow night, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. at the Cairo High School Hancock Library.
Dr. Pharis encourages any and all parents interested to attend.
The purpose of the committee is to:
Increase awareness within the community of the benefits of parent’s engagement with their children.
Provide practical strategies demonstrating how parents can engage with their children and their schools.
Sharing strategies demonstrating how educators can engage with students and their parents.
During the meeting Thursday night, the committee will discuss strategies and an action plan.
Current members of the committee include: Ryan Lee, Jan Westberg, Cindy Cromer, Missy Roberts, David McCurry, Jennifer Hand, Tyler Lee, Teresa Gee Harrison, Johnny Moore, Dorothy Adams, Dellise Cox, Chantrell Bruton, Kay David, Shelia Cain, Pete Williams, Maxine Smiley, Demetrius Cox, Noni Hunter, Earlene Cruel, Renee Gee Theophille, LaShonda Harrison, Gloria Fuller and Cheryl Harrison.
Dr. Pharis says that all parents and citizens who would like to be involved in this effort are encouraged to attend Thursday night’s meeting.
Following the meeting, Dr. Pharis will address questions concerning the school system, its policies and operations.
