Christmas parade deadline extended
Chamber of Commerce officials announced this week the deadline to register entries in this year’s Cairo Christmas Parade has been extended.
Chamber Executive Vice President Jennifer Majors said this week that the chamber has pushed back the registration date to Wednesday, Nov. 18. The original deadline was this Friday.
Although the registration deadline has been extended, more than 50 entries have already registered for the big event.
This year’s parade will step off at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, and the theme is “The Joy of Giving.”
In keeping with the parade theme, chamber officials are encouraging all participants to donate unwrapped toys or nonperishable food items with their parade applications.
The items collected will be donated to the Grady County Help Agency to help make the holiday a little brighter for those less fortunate.
To date, the chamber has collected 15 bags of donated items plus two cases of canned corn and canned beans.
Once again, cash prizes will be awarded to the first place winners in the religious, civic/clubs, commercial and school categories. Cash prizes and the Christmas Spirit Award will be awarded to the unit which best expresses the parade theme. The first runner-up for the Christmas Spirit Award will also earn a cash prize.
Cairo’s Christmas Parade is sponsored each year by the chamber and the Downtown Merchants Association.
