Costumed youngsters will have two chances to gather something sweet to eat in Cairo this weekend. The Downtown Development Authority announced that many downtown businesses will host an annual Halloween “Trick or Treat” on Friday afternoon, Oct. 30. Participating private homes will observe the fall holiday on Halloween’s actual date, Saturday, Oct. 31.
The downtown event is scheduled for 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., and all children under the age of 12 who are accompanied by an adult are invited to trick or treat with participating merchants. Those businesses that are taking part will have a sign posted in their window. Adults are asked to help their princesses and goblins cross the street only at corner crosswalks.
Cairo Police Chief Keith Sandefur encourages adults to keep their children safe when trick or treating both downtown and in neighborhoods.
