Community health fair is planned

Cairo’s Wal-Mart is hosting a community health fair next week at its store with a variety of free health screenings and a balloon release for breast cancer awareness.
The third annual event is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the Wal-Mart parking lot.
Folks in attendance may take advantage of several free services such as: vision screenings; blood pressure and blood sugar screenings; hemoglobin checks; carbon monoxide screenings; breast exams; HIV screenings; bone density tests; and prescription medication assistance. Also, information will be available on WIC; tobacco prevention; breast cancer; Hospice; home health; and behavioral health. There will also be demonstrations of telemonitors and durable medical equipment. For those who would like to donate blood, a bloodmobile will be available.
At 5:30 p.m., a balloon release will bring recognition to Breast Cancer Awareness Week. The balloons may be purchased at the Wal-Mart service desk for $1 each, and a card may be placed inside the balloon in honor of or in memory of a loved one.
Agencies that will be on hand for the health fair are: ResCare; Spring Creek Health Care; Southeastern Community Blood Center; Grady General Hospital; Southwest Georgia Nursing Students; Telamon Corporation; Grady County Health Department; Decatur County Farm Worker Health; DFCS; Right From the Start Medicaid; Grady County Senior Center; Cairo Fitness Center; Veterans Express Bus; Source Care; Georgia Department of Labor; Wal-Mart Pharmacy; Archbold Home Health; Archbold Northside; Hospice of Southwest Georgia; Grady County Fire Department; Cairo Police Department; Cairo Chiropractic; and Cairo Eye Center.
