Products containing peanut butter are recalled

Peanut butter sticks, some granola bars and cookie dough are now part of an ever-expanding list of products being recalled because they have a peanut butter ingredient that came from the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) plant in Blakely, Ga.
The Blakely plant is the focus of an investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) concerning a recent salmonella outbreak thought to be caused by tainted peanut butter. Items included in the recall include:

Blanton’s Candies
Blanton’s Candies of Sweetwater, Tenn., is recalling approximately 1,400 pounds of its peanut butter sticks that are packaged in eight-ounce cellophane bags. The peanut butter in the candy was supplied by PCA and has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The product label has the printing “Blanton’s Homemade Candy, Sweetwater, TN. 423-337-3487.”  There are no product codes or dates printed on the container.

The Blanton’s Peanut Butter Sticks were distributed through retail stores in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida.

Consumers with this product should not consume it but discard the candy and return the packaging to place of purchase for a full refund. Those with questions should contact Blanton’s Candies at (423) 337-3487.

Health Valley Organic Peanut Crunch Chewy Granola Bars

Lovin Oven, LLC, Irwindale, Calif., is recalling certain Health Valley Organic Peanut Crunch Chewy Granola Bars because they too contain a peanut butter ingredient supplied by PCA.

The recalled Organic Peanut Crunch Chewy Granola Bars, 6.1 oz box  (# 0-35742 15483-4) are distributed to retailers nationwide by the Health Valley Company.  The specific lots affected are: 13JUN09, 14JUN09, 28JUL09.  The lot code can be found on the left hand side of the top panel.

Consumers who have purchased this product may return it to place of purchase for a full refund.   Those with questions should call (800) 434-4246.

Frozen Cookie Dough

Additionally, Best Brands Corp. is recalling some of its frozen cookie dough.

The Minnetonka, Minn. company — Best Brands Corp. — is recalling its peanut butter frozen cookie dough because it contains peanut butter manufactured by PCA.
The peanut butter cookie dough was sold to retail and grocery store bakeries in addition to other foodservice outlets.
Consumers may also have purchased the product as baked cookies of various sizes.   These cookies may have been sold from trays at bakery counters or in individual packages with grocery store labels. The name “Best Brands Corp.” would not appear on the consumer package.

No other Best Brand Corp. frozen cookie dough products are being recalled.

The cases of unbaked cookie dough by Best Brand Corp. that are being recalled carry a lot code of 2208-1 or higher. The lot code is defined as follows: DDDY-B where DDD = Julian date, Y= year and B= batch. For example, 2208-1 was the first batch produced on August 7, 2008
