Beloved local syrupmaker dies

Services for Elwood (Pye) Harrison, 83, Cairo, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2008, at Pine Level Baptist Church. The Rev. Jim Weaver will officiate and interment will follow at Pine Level Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ron Harrison, Eric Harrison, Timothy Allen, Bruce Brown, Walt Sellars, Chris Lovin, Bo Brown, Dusty Brown, Darren Moore, Chad Butler, Craig Knight, Cole Harrison, Zack Harrison, Tristan Lovin, Nathan Lovin, Chase Butler and Stevie Davis.
Mr. Harrison died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Ga.
Born July 27, 1925, in Cairo, Ga., he was a son of the late Bill and Maggie Mills Harrison. He married Lois Maxwell Harrison, who survives, on July 26, 1947. He was a farmer, served his country in the United States Navy, and was a member of Pine Level Baptist Church and the Cairo Shrine Club.
In addition to his wife, Lois Maxwell Harrison, Whigham, Ga., he is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, David and Brenda Harrison, Cairo, Ga., Lee and Linda Harrison, Cairo, Ga., and Neal and Wanda Harrison, Cairo, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law, Delores and Bruce Brown, Cairo, Ga., Annell and Timothy Allen, Cairo, Ga., and Kathy and Walt Sellars, Whigham, Ga., grandchildren and their spouses, Dana and Darren Moore, Cairo, Ga., Ron and Greta Harrison, Cairo, Ga., Shanna and Chris Lovin, Cordele, Ga., Elisha and Chad Butler, Cairo, Ga., Eric and Jennifer Harrison, Cairo, Ga., Bo Brown, Cairo, Ga., Jessica and Craig Knight, Pelham, Ga., Dusty Brown, Cairo, Ga., and Mallory Sellars, Cairo, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Lacey Moore, Brice Edwards, Cole Harrison, Zack Harrison, Dara Moore, Savannah Butler, Emma Butler and Chase Butler, all of Cairo, Ga., Nathan Lovin and Tristan Lovin, both of Cordele, Ga., and Kalin Knight, Pelham, Ga.; and a sister, Nell Aycock, Cairo, Ga.
In addition to his parents, Bill and Maggie Mills Harrison, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law, Turner and Mavis Harrison, Hurschel and Annie Mae Harrison, sisters and brother-in-law, Evelyn Harrison Ready, Verna Harrison, and Desser and Jack McKown.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at the funeral home.
