Grady County turned a shade of red last week for the annual recognition of Red Ribbon Week here.
Volunteers with the group Drug Free Grady bathed the Grady County Courthouse and Cairo City Hall in red light in honor of the week, which is set aside to promote drug abuse prevention.
A highlight of the commemoration included a prayer service on the courthouse lawn Wednesday, Oct. 28, at noon.
Pastors who lead prayers were Annette Higdon Fresh Start Global Outreach Ministries, Christy Bandy of Cairo First United Methodist, Renee Gee-Theophille of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Arnaldo Gonzalez of El Camino Church, Travis Harrison of First Assembly of God Church, and Elder King Parramore of First Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Annette Higdon, Drug Free Grady board member and pastor, organized the Prayer at the Courthouse, and Cairo High School art teacher Scott Easom and students created a special Drug Free Grady sign for the event, according to Nola Daughtry, chair of Drug Free Grady.
