Elevate Artisan Market, the outdoor autumn market started by Cairo resident Della Lovett in 2016, is taking place Saturday and shoppers are encouraged to embrace the day and come dressed in a Halloween costume.
There are 120 artisans and craftspeople from around the Southeast who are participating in the annual event, which will take place once again in the Lovett’s pecan orchard on Hall Road. In addition to handmade crafts, several vendors will also be on site making and selling gourmet food items.
Lovett says after consulting with the Department of Public Health and local health officials, she is instituting protocols designed to protect the public health and wellbeing, such as the placement of hand washing stations throughout the grounds, and placement of hand sanitizing stations near booths.
With the number of vendors limited to 120, more space between booths will allow for social distancing, she says.
Shoppers will be asked to wear a mask and to socially distance while at the market. Masks will be available for free to those who attend.
Since it is Halloween, shoppers are encouraged to come in costume and compete for prizes in a costume contest that will take place in the afternoon. Costumed children can trick or treat at booths as vendors have been encouraged to have candy and treats to give out.
Lovett says the admission of $3 per vehicle will be “contact-free” at the gate, and parking is free.
“Everyone is invited to get outside, enjoy the fresh air and come enjoy a day of wonderful art, food and fun at the 5th Annual Elevate Artisan Market,” states Lovett.
Summerhill Farms, where Elevate takes place, is located at 644 Hall Rd., Cairo. More information may be found at their website, www.elevateartisanmarket.com.
