Cairo city manager Chris Addleton and Cairo Police Chief Giovannie Santos inspected the progress at the city’s new police headquarters Tuesday as plans are for the department to move in later this summer.
“The contractor expects to finish up by the end of the month. We will work through any items on our punch list in August and by early August the new furniture should be installed. I’m hopeful we can move in by late August and be settled in by the first of September,” Addleton said.
Chief Santos said he and his officers are excited about the new facility, which will provide less cramped quarters than the current police headquarters while at the same time provide room for future growth.
The new police headquarters, located on Third Avenue N.W., features 12,500 square feet. It is being constructed by PDC Construction, Inc. of Bainbridge at a cost of $3,697,023, which was financed with the proceeds of the sale of the city’s assets in the C.N.S. cable/internet system to the South Georgia Governmental Services Authority.
The new facility was designed by architect Greg Smith of Buckley & Associates in Albany.
“Once we are moved in and settled, we will schedule an open house for the community to come and see what has been done here,” Addleton said.
