Reopening of farmhouse at Birdsong postponed

Renovation delays have prevented the reopening of the historic farmhouse at Birdsong Nature Center.
Officials had originally planned to reopen the facility and the popular Bird Window on Sept. 2, but renovations have not been completed.
Now, the projected reopening date is set for next Friday, Oct. 9.
“We still will not have everything finished in the house and around the garden, but the Bird Window will be open without further delay,” Birdsong Nature Center Executive Director Kathleen Brady said.
The trails and Butterfly Garden are open and programs are continuing as scheduled.
The facilities are being refurbished in advance of Birdsong’s 30th anniversary to be celebrated next April.
Included in the work is painting, new flooring and carpeting, and repairs. According to Ms. Brady, the historic farmhouse was last painted in 1994.
Plans also call for the restoration of the garden outside the popular Bird Window. The entrance drive, parking area and road leading out on the property will be graded, leveled and graveled.
