Stolen Gator is recovered

The stolen John Deere Gator that prompted Debbie Johnson to start a Facebook page, Syrup City STOLEN, has been found and a suspect arrested.
Raymond Brown, 17, Cairo had been seen driving Johnson’s utility vehicle with his bicycle strapped to the back, according to Chief Investigator Steve Clark with the Grady County Sheriff’s Office. “We knew who we were looking for, it was just a matter of finding him,” Clark said Tuesday.
Brown was taken into custody on Tuesday, Sept. 15, and Clark said Brown showed him where to find the hidden Gator.
“He was seen, got scared, turned around and hid it in the woods,” Clark says. The Gator was found stashed in a wooded area near Johnson’s property on Hadley Ferry.
“Special thanks to Steve Clark and Sheriff Harry Young and all involved,” says Mrs. Johnson.
Clark says Brown is also charged with stealing a Yamaha Rhino utility vehicle from an address near Mrs. Johnson the same day.
“People saw him on it, and knew he wasn’t supposed to have it” and reported him, Clark says. The Rhino was found in a wooded area in west Cairo the same day it was stolen.
Brown is being held in the Grady County Detention Center on two counts of felony theft by taking.
Syrup City STOLEN is a social media page dedicated to keeping people informed of thefts occurring in Grady County, Mrs. Johnson says. She refers to it as an online neighborhood watch.
