CHS Bands to present holiday concert Sunday
The Christmas season is upon us and with it comes a special event that for 66 years has signaled this special time of year. This Sunday afternoon, Dec. 7, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. in the Cairo High School auditorium the Cairo High Band will present the 66th annual Christmas Concert.
“Everyone knows the rich traditions of the Syrupmaker Band, and we have a great Christmas program in store for everyone on Sunday,” says Band Director Michael Thomas.
Highlights of the concert include the combined Cairo Concert and Symphonic Bands beginning the festivities with a three movement work entitled “Merry Christmas!” The combined band will continue with “Star of Wonder” and a very interesting work entitled A “Can Can Christmas” that’s sure to bring a smile to your face.
They will be followed by a brief intermission as the Symphony Band takes the stage to present “The Sounds of Christmas Joy.” A Ralph Ford arrangement of two western holiday favorites that he titled “Santa Songs” will follow. The Symphony Band will then feature guest soloist Mitchell Thomas in a Robert Smith work the “Latin Bell Carol.”
The afternoon concert will conclude with the beautifully contemplative work “Auld Lang Syne” as arranged by Chip Davis of the group Mannheim Steamroller.
So, don’t forget to mark your calendars now for the Cairo High School Band’s 66th annual Christmas Concert to be held this Sunday afternoon, Dec. 7, at 2:30 in the CHS auditorium.
