Youth Fit Fest takes place Saturday, rain or shine

Although organizers of Saturday’s 2013 Youth Fit Fest are watching the weekend weather forecast, they promise the event will take place rain or shine.
The first annual event sponsored by Grady County’s Archway Partnership and many other local collaborators to promote youth fitness and family fun is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Davis Park and Roddenbery Memorial Library. Should it rain, all of the activities will be moved inside the library.
The event is free and open to the public. It will provide kid-friendly workout activities and games; hands-on fitness demonstrations; nutrition information and healthy cooking demonstrations; weight-loss program information; health screenings and more. In addition, there will be group Zumba, yoga classes and boot camp exhibitions.
Hoping to address the issue of childhood obesity, local volunteers say they are hoping this fest will provide information and promote healthy lifestyles.
Screenings that will be available include blood pressure, body mass Index (BMI), heart rate, spinal chiropractic and blood glucose.
Participants in the festival include: American Cancer Society; Archbold Medical Center; Aurielle Wilson Zumba; Cairo Spine and Nerve Institute; COGI Athletic; Donna Bond Graham yoga; Fitness Life; Georgia Pines Community Service; Board “GASPS” Statewide Alcohol Initiative; Grady County Health Department; Grady County School Nutrition; Grady General Hospital; Hot Spot Tanning and Fitness; Ira Higdon Grocery Company; Massage Therapy and Wellness Center; Mayo Clinic-Spirit of Eagles Program; Millsaps Training Facility; Next Level Training and Motivation; Performance Food Group; Right from the Start-Medicaid Outreach Project; Roddenbery Memorial Library; South Georgia Spine and Joint Center; Southeast American Indian Council; UGA Cooperative Extension, Grady County; Walgreens; and WellCare.
