Chamber announces award nominees

The Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce’s 91st annual membership banquet is less than two weeks away, and tickets to the event are now on sale.
In addition to a featured speaker who has preached at Billy Graham events, the local men and women who make a difference in Grady County will be recognized for their community service.
Once again, the chamber is releasing a slate of nominees for each award, such Farm Family of the Year and Man and Woman of the Year. The banquet is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 23, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Nominees for Man of the Year are: Hansell Bearden; Richard Castillo Jr.; T.D. David; Steve DeVoursney; Jet Cox; Fred McCallum; and Charlie Norton.
Nominees for Woman of the Year are: Susan Chastain; Nancy Clark; Demetrius Cox; Brooke Jones; Carol Lehman; Dianne Moore; and Laura Register.
Nominees for Community Service Award are: Johnny Baggett; Susan Chastain; Candice Eubanks; Audrey Magee; and Jeff Mobley.
Nominees for Professional of the Year are: Al Akridge; Tilda Brimm; Stephen Francis; Brandie Turner; and Renn Elkins West.
Nominees for Farm Family of the Year are: Myron James; Ricky Powe; Stanaland Farms; and Littleton Wilder and Sons.
The Chamber will also recognize Grady County Teacher of the Year Brooke Reynolds.
The awards are sponsored by the Grady County Employer Committee.
The dinner will be held at the Grady Cultural Center, and will kick off with a cocktail reception, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m., sponsored by Bird Dog Bottle of Cairo.
The Cairo High School Jazz Ensemble will play throughout the evening until the official Chamber meeting gets underway.
Jay Evans, owner of Badcock and More, is sponsoring dinner for the jazz band.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to have Ken Smith speak at our Annual Meeting and Dinner,” said Chamber Vice President Jenny Law. “This is a great opportunity to meet Ken Smith and hear his testimony and how we all can make a difference in our circle of life.” This year’s guest speaker is sponsored by Grady EMC.
