Majors is leaving chamber
JENNIFER MAJORS answers a telephone call from someone wanting information on Mule Day. Her last day at the chamber is Monday.
Mrs. Majors has accepted a position with the Southwest Georgia Regional Education Service Agency (RESA) based in Camilla.
There, she will assist math and teacher alternative preparation program consultants among other duties.
“I am honored to have had the opportunity to serve my community for the last seven years. I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of working at the chamber. I have had the pleasure to work with some great people who believe in and love this community and want to see it succeed,” Mrs. Majors said.
She said that her new job offers her additional benefits and a schedule more suited for her and her family.
Mrs. Majors and her husband Derrick are the parents of two boys, Noah who is a sixth grader at Washington Middle School and Alden who is a third grader at Southside Elementary School.
“We hate to lose her. She has been a vital part of our organization for the past seven years, but people decide to pursue other jobs. Her new job offers her more benefits and teacher retirement, which are benefits we don’t have here,” Chamber Executive Director Chadd Mathis said this week.
In a statement issued last week 2014 Chamber Chairman Chastity Cox stated, “We would like to thank Jennifer for her seven years of dedicated service to the community and wish her well in her new endeavors.”
In her role as executive vice president of the chamber Mrs. Majors also worked closely with the Grady County Joint Development Authority of which Mathis is also executive director.
During the authority’s meeting this week, JDA Chairman Charles M. Stafford paid tribute to Mrs. Majors for her years of service.
“We have worked together for many years and I will miss you there’s no doubt about it. You’ve been a lot of help to me and this authority and together we’ve done a lot of good in this community. You were right there and helped put it all together. If not for you we would not have been able to put it together. You did an outstanding job and we hate to see you go,” Chairman Stafford said.
Mathis said he would begin advertising the vacancy next week.
The chamber will host a drop-in reception from 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. this Friday in honor of Mrs. Majors. Members and volunteers are encouraged to come.
