Green is beating the bushes in support of sales tax for schools

DR. LARRY GREEN is chairing a committee that has organized to promote passage of Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax Referendum in November.

A group calling itself “Better Schools for Grady County” has been organized to promote passage of the Education Special Purpose Sales Tax that Grady County voters will decide on in November.
Grady County School System officials are hopeful voters will renew the one percent sales tax to provide funding for facilities improvements, purchase instructional equipment, school buses and athletic facilities upgrades.
The referendum will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4, and early voting will be held Oct. 13 – 31.
“Better Schools for Grady County” is being chaired by Dr. Larry R. Green, the retired superintendent of Thomas County Schools. Dr. Green, a 1963 graduate of Cairo High School and standout athlete, has volunteered to lead the effort to promote passage of the ESPLOST.
Grady County School Superintendent Lee M. Bailey said half the battle to get the ESPLOST renewed was won by successfully recruiting Dr. Green to head the marketing effort.
“He is wide open,” Bailey said. According to the superintendent, Dr. Green has already met with each school principal and several of the school advisory councils and PTOs. “Larry is covering all the bases,” Bailey added.
Dr. Green over the next several weeks will be out promoting the passage of the ESPLOST to various civic clubs and organizations.
