Valuable tools and equipment have been stolen from outbuildings

Thieves have targeted outdoor storage buildings in Grady County this month, stealing thousands of dollars worth of tools and equipment. The Grady County Sheriff’s Office is investigating at least six burglaries reported over a 16-day period in an area mainly north of Cairo.
The largest heist was reported on Sunday, July 13, at a home on South Shore Drive, Ochlocknee. The victim reported someone took from his outdoor shed power tools, hand tools and fishing gear with a total value of nearly $14,000. Items taken include sockets, pliers, jig saw, router, casting reels, rods, tackle and more.
On Saturday, July 19, a victim on Bold Springs Road reported the theft of a dirt bike and two Snap-On torque wrenches from his outdoor shed. The man says the value of his loss totals up to $4,800.
On Tuesday, July 22, a Pine Park Road resident told deputies he noticed that morning that the door to his outdoor shop was “swinging wide open.” The deputy reports that a tool was used to pry open the door. Reported stolen were wrenches, screw drivers, cutters and other tools plus two pairs of tennis shoes and a pair of leather flip flops. The loss is valued at $2,500. While the deputy was on site, a neighbor reported that a black water hose had been stolen from her home.
On Thursday, July 24, a resident of Highway 111 North discovered that a 25-gallon spray tank had been taken from his locked outdoor shed.
On Friday, July 25, a victim on Joyner Road returned home to find three doors open to his outdoor storage facility and about $4,600 in equipment missing. In all, a 2008 Kawasaki Mule, 110 Mercury boat motor and Porter-Cable saws were reported stolen.
On Monday, July 28, a complainant reported that a leaf blower valued at $300 was missing from his shed.
Although sheriff’s investigators say they believe the thefts may be connected, they are still gathering evidence and ask for anyone with information that may be helpful to contact their office at 229-377-5200.
